Absolutely not! Although we specialize in Dyslexia and provide intensive one-on-one tutoring sessions, through our other offerings, we meet the needs of ALL learners including other neurodivergent children, typical learners, and gifted learners. Beyond Words provides an educational opportunity for children to learn in unique, flexible, and creative ways. Our hybrid homeschool program partners and supports families who wish to homeschool their children but cannot commit to it full-time. The program gives homeschool children the opportunity to do school and life together.
What is the hybrid part all about? At Beyond Words, we believe the parents are their children's first teachers. The part time nature of the program allows families the precious time together yet gives working families the peace of mind that their children are thriving in a safe and happy personalized educational environment.
Beyond Words is a microschool, an innovative educational opportunity for families looking for an alternative to traditional schooling (whether public, private or charter). A microschool is a non-traditional educational setting where students are learning side-by-side with learners of various ages and abilities. Think of it like a one room school house. Microschools have become increasingly popular as families are desiring more personalized and engaging learning for their children. The students enrolled at Beyond Words Hybrid Homeschool Program are considered homeschooled students which allows parents to have more involvement in their child's education. This also means that parents are the ones responsible to meet the compulsory attendance laws under COMAR.
No. Beyond Words is not a homeschool umbrella. The parents are ultimately responsible to abide by COMAR and the compulsory attendance laws by either doing a portfolio review through their local Board of Education or using an independent umbrella. If you need recommendations for homeschool umbrellas, reach out!
Orton Gillingham (OG) is an instructional approach to reading and spelling where Dyslexic Thinkers can thrive. The approach is explicit, direct, multi-sensory, systematic, and sequential. A diagnostic and perspective lens is used to always design personalized lessons meeting the student exactly where he or she is at. Beyond Words believes in going as fast as we can but as slow as we need to, in order to fill in the student's gaps in reading.
Beyond Tutoring provides various educational opportunities for children ages 5 through 18 years old.
Beyond Words has many different opportunities! For virtual dyslexia tutoring, we focus on reading and spelling. For the hybrid homeschool program, we dive into all areas from reading and writing to math, science, and art. The homeschool program is child led and is geared towards the individual students' interest. Our academic summer camp focuses on reading, writing, and math.
